Night Tide-Chap18

When Chao Xin woke up, a slight sense of regret washed over her.

It seemed… she might have said something wrong.

She wasn’t sure if she had inadvertently offended Xiang Wan.

Navigating interpersonal relationships was not her strong suit. Yesterday’s ‘no bra’ incident had unexpectedly and dramatically brought her closer to Xiang Wan. Along with the effects of alcohol, her ability to think clearly had been compromised.

Xiang Wan would likely soon realize that her manners were not particularly good, Chao Xin thought.

She looked at the clock, it was past seven in the morning. To make it convenient for Xiang Wan to use the bathroom, she hadn’t closed the door to her room. Although Paipai was abroad and they could each use a bathroom, Chao Xin had decided to get used to not closing the door of her room considering future circumstances.

Yet, she had slept extraordinarily well, quite strangely.

After a simple wash, Chao Xin got up to make breakfast. Not knowing what Xiang Wan liked to eat, Chao Xin sent her a WeChat message.

“What would you like to eat?”

There was no reply, Chao Xin thought she was probably still asleep.

So Chao Xin made porridge with millet, boiled a couple of eggs, and there were pickles she had made herself in the refrigerator, ready to be served when needed.

After finishing the cooking, Chao Xin returned to the bedroom, intending to take a nap. She replied to a few messages on WeChat before pulling back the quilt, and to her surprise, she discovered someone in the bed.

Warm and soft, lying on her side on the other pillow, her back turned to Chao Xin. Her long hair crossed the gap between the two pillows, intruding a bit into her space.

Chao Xin sat up, looked at the floor on her side, then glanced at the other side. There were Xiang Wan’s pink slippers. Judging by the direction of the slippers and the randomness of their placement, it seemed that Xiang Wan had woken up in the morning while she was cooking, came out of the bathroom still half-asleep, and laid down on the bed seeing it empty.

Paipai had done something similar before, going to the bathroom in her master bedroom for convenience, and then crawled into her bed and clung to Chao Xin without letting go.

After that, Chao Xin started locking the door.

She found it a bit funny, the habits of young girls were quite similar.

Covering Xiang Wan with the quilt, Chao Xin quietly got out of bed. She then took her phone and went to the living room, sitting cross-legged on the sofa.

She answered a few messages in a low voice, having nothing else to do, she opened Weibo and started searching for ‘Chao Xin’.

There weren’t many messages, mostly official announcements of dramas and comments on her participation in some film and television drama dubbing.

After some thought, she entered ‘Ms. Chao’.

Following Xiang Wan’s operation from yesterday, she clicked on ‘Newest’.

Everything seemed normal. As she scrolled up, a new message appeared, and she casually clicked on it.

That person said, “Hiss-ha-hiss-ha, Ms. Chao, you’re really good at panting. I want to be your dog, my wife, muah muah muah, I’ll kiss you to death.”

Chao Xin’s heart tightened, she wanted to report such a sleazy man. Furrowing her brows, she clicked into the person’s profile, yet the gender column read ‘female’.

Hence, she hesitated a bit and continued scrolling through her Weibo.

She was a female college student, had taken a picture of her student ID, and even complained about the cafeteria food being unappetizing.

But every now and then there would be a post: “What’s the point of my life if I can’t sleep with Chao Xin?”

‘Chao Xin’ was deliberately typed with homophones, perhaps to avoid being searched.

“If being sexy is a crime, Chao Xin, you’ve been sentenced to life imprisonment by me. How can a woman have me climax repeatedly just with a trailer? Hiss-ha-hiss-ha.jpg”

Trailer? Chao Xin thought for a moment, the most recent trailer was for the audio drama ‘Pat Me Please’.

Putting down her phone, she suddenly remembered why she had blurted out the word ‘sleep’ yesterday. It was because at the hot pot restaurant, seeing Xiang Wan’s friends making risque jokes, she thought she could be more frank with Xiang Wan.

However, Chao Xin forgot that they were not that close yet. Would Xiang Wan, hearing her use such words, feel the same way as when Chao Xin saw this stranger, as if seeing a monster?

Afterwards, it seemed like Xiang Wan didn’t say anything and just went to sleep.

Chao Xin suddenly felt a bit restless.

Looking at the time, it was almost nine. She hesitated as she walked to the doorway and gently knocked.

Hearing no response, she called out, “Xiang Wan.”

The person on the bed let out a lazy ‘mm’.

Chao Xin walked over, “Time to wake up.”

Only then did Xiang Wan turn over, open her eyes, a hint of physiological tears in them, as she looked at Chao Xin.

Then she said, “Ms. Chao, I’m sorry, I’m feeling a bit lazy, please allow me to lie in bed for another ten minutes.”

Having said this very restrainedly, she then dove back into the pillow.

Chao Xin sat at the bed’s edge, and couldn’t help but laugh out loud.

Xiang Wan was very well-behaved, very cute, the more Chao Xin interacted with her, the more she felt it.

She was different from Paipai’s cuteness. Paipai would make Chao Xin want to pat her small frame, telling her that the sun was shining on her bottom, and that children who don’t get up will be the first to be eaten by the big bad wolf.

But Xiang Wan… made one want to gently tell her, then sleep a bit more, preferably in my arms.

Chao Xin thought, if she were Xiang Wan’s boyfriend, she would probably say the latter sentence.

Then Chao Xin suddenly realized that Xiang Wan is a lesbian, so she felt a bit awkward. She stood up and closed the door for her.

After tidying up the room for a bit, she heard the faint sound of slippers. Chao Xin, clad in home attire, was on her knees cleaning the carpet under the coffee table.

Just as she was about to greet her, she heard Xiang Wan ask, “Ms. Chao, did you scrolled Weibo this morning?”

Her tone was a bit serious, a world away from the laziness in her voice just now.

“Yes.” Chao Xin stood up.

“You accidentally followed someone…” Xiang Wan looked at the screenshot in their four-person WeChat group in disbelief.

Could it be… Chao Xin’s heart skipped a beat, but she still calmly opened Weibo. Indeed, something unsightly had appeared on her timeline.

Fortunately, as a non-traffic VA, following someone wouldn’t spark a discussion immediately. It was only when Yu Zhou wanted to follow the lead voice actors as the author today that she noticed the anomaly.

Chao Xin immediately unfollowed. In her private message box, an apology from the other party appeared: “Sry Ms. Chao!!! I’m really sorry!!! I didn’t mean to offend!!! I just really, really like you, I have no filter, Ms. Chao, please forgive me, really sry!!!”

Several messages were sent in quick succession, accompanied by several crying face emojis. Chao Xin had never dealt with such an incident before. The key issue was that the other party seemed to be in a poor mental state, so she frowned, unsure of what to reply.

Xiang Wan leaned over and said, “Just reply with a smile.”

Then she extended her finger, opened the emoji panel, and sent a “Hehe.jpg” on Chao Xin’s behalf.

This was elegant and polite, displaying a lot of grace.

This emoji… Chao Xin looked at her with a complex expression, “Did you use this with your fans before?”

“Occasionally.” Xiang Wan said.

“And then?”

“It works wonders. Usually, they would mend their ways and stop bothering me.”

Chao Xin was skeptical, this emoji conveys more sarcastic meaning these days, but since Xiang Wan had sent it, she didn’t say anything.

Seeing Chao Xin had completed her handling, Xiang Wan finally said, “I’m sorry, I slept on your bed earlier. I’m still not used to it, I’ll remember next time.”

“It’s fine. Breakfast is ready, go ahead.”

Xiang Wan put her hands together, closed her eyes, making an appreciative gesture.

Her long, black hair wrapped around her softly, tucked behind her ears on both sides, revealing a clean face, making her devout gesture like waiting for a kiss.

Then she hooked the corner of her mouth before turning to serve the food.

Chao Xin suddenly recalled many years ago, while watching the movie “Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons”, the heroine said, “When a girl closes her eyes, she wants you to kiss her.”

But at that time, what she thought was that the actress’s pronunciation and accent were very unique, sounding quite rhythmic.

Many years later, she suddenly remembered this sentence as if ruminating on it.

Chao Xin gathered her thoughts and decided to hang up the laundry. She must have been too idle today, her mind wandered quite a bit.
